Carbon-arc lamp

In 1878 Friedrich v. Hefner-Alteneck of the Siemens & Halske developed the first carbon-arc lamp with automatic regulating system. Due to their high luminous intensity, carbon-arc lamps were still used after the turn of the century for illuminating streets and squares.
