Siemens Elettra employees total 2093 and the company purchases technical offices previously owned by Siemens SpA, turning them into branch offices (Cagliari, Catania, Turin, Genoa, Bologna, Florence and Naples). Warehouses are located alongside each office, and others are located in Bari, Macomer, Palermo and Pescara. The production site of Piazza Leonardo da Vinci in Milan (ex Olap) is closed down and residual activities are transferred to Via Vipiteno 4. Penetration is started in the sector of data processors: units are installed at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of Bologna, the Telecommunications Study Centre and Laboratories of Turin, at Montedison, and for the State Railway with the installation of a large central reservation data processor. The company fulfills Fiat requirements for low voltage switches, and obtains important order commissions in the areas of plant engineering, lighting, safety installations for high voltage power distribution, supply and installation of generators, turbines and compressors, and multiple motor drives for the textile and paper processing industry. Premises of over 136,000 m2 are purchased at Cavenago Brianza for the setup of a new important production site. The company Gorla Siama is merged with Siemens Elettra, which purchases a significant block of shares in Baruffaldi Frizioni and Bemporad Danieli & C of Turin, the latter then to be merged with the company. Activities in the field of electronic data processors are expanded and, given the mutual interest in this field with Stet, the company Siemens Data SpA is set up (Siemens AG 51%, SIT Siemens 40%, Stet 9%).
